Super Bowl 51 – Sunday, Feb. 5th

We’ve been told that the ‘Super Bowl’ is this weekend, which is apparently some sort of gladiatorial combat involving a leather ball, birds of prey from Georgia, and several East Coast patriots. While we’re not sure what to make of that, it has also come to our attention that there will be some fantastic commercials during breaks on the ‘iron grid’, in addition to a halftime performance by the inscrutable Lady Gaga. With that being said, if football isn’t your cup of tea we have a few other events on our radar that might tickle your fancy:

 

Progressive International Motorcycle Show – Feb. 3rd – 5th

If you’re a two wheeled maniac like some of us here at MHCC, you’ve got to get down to the convention center to see the latest and greatest bikes, plus much more! “The 36th annual tour will visit seven cities in 2016 and 2017, welcoming experienced, new, and non-riders to preview hundreds of new 2, 3 and 4-wheel vehicles before they hit the dealerships. Attendees will also have the chance to purchase parts, gear and accessories; speak with brand representatives; vote in the J&P Cycles Ultimate Builder Custom Bike Show; see vintage bikes; connect with other enthusiasts; watch a stunt show and experience new attractions – all in one weekend!”

 

Redbull Crashed Ice – Feb. 3rd – 4th

Red Bull Crashed Ice is just about the craziest thing that can happen on any ice, anywhere, at any time. You can watch with thousands and thousands of other people as these ninja-bladed warriors take to a frozen course of madness and mayhem to prove who is the fastest of them all.

 

Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo – Feb. 3rd – 5th

The Xcel Energy Center is hosting the “Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo! – as it rides back into Saint Paul for two thrilling shows Friday-Saturday, Feb. 3-4, 2017 at Xcel Energy Center starting at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets went on sale Friday, Sept. 23 at noon at the Xcel Energy Center Box Office, charge by phone at 800-745-3000 or online at ticketmaster.com. Tickets start at $18 for adults and $10.25 for kids 12 and under.”

 

Doggie Depot – Feb. 4th (10:ooam – 1:00pm)

Do you like cats? Nobody likes cats…That’s why this week is the Doggie Depot! Ok, ok we like cats sometimes too, but this weekend it’s all about man’s best friend. The pups, pooches, mutts and hounds. “Looking to adopt a dog? Looking for local pet resources? Then this pawsitively awesome event is for you! On Saturday, February 4th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.”

 

Films at the Fitz: Groundhog Day – Feb. 2nd (6:00-10:00pm)

This 1993 classic starring none other than Bill Murray will be the first of many Films at the Fitz this year. Groundhog Day (featuring Bruised Violet providing the music) will be shown this week at 6:00pm, “so dress up like your favorite characters, order a beer and popcorn, and see why City Pages named Films at the Fitz the “Best Thing to Do for FREE in the Twin Cities.”

 

28th Annual Fire & Ice – Saturday, Feb. 4th

You had us at recycling bin races and a goofy hat contest – this is our type of event to bring the entire family to! “Plymouth’s winter get-together, the 28th annual Fire & Ice, is set for 3-7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at Parkers Lake Park – off of County Road 6 and Niagara Lane. Warm up at a bonfire with s’mores and hot chocolate. Food trucks will also be on site (bring cash for food truck purchases).” Here you can find the list of events.

 

8th Annual Beer Dabbler – February 4th

This weekend is the 8th Annual Beer Dabbler in St. Paul. If you’re unfamiliar with this beer dabbler, it’s been described as “Unlimited samples of the nation’s best craft beer, great live music, and fun activities. The Beer Dabbler Winter Carnival is a true celebration of winter in Minnesota.” Tickets are available at the door, but don’t wait because we’re guessing it’ll sell out soon!
